Frequently Asked Questions

What’s DIG?

It’s a community with a mission to support you! DIG is our acronym for Diversity in Games?

IS THE GROUP for women only?

Definitely not! DIG exists to encourage and promote diversity in the games industry in all its forms: whether gender, sexuality, cultural background or other qualities that make us all individual, interesting and unique.

Our ask is that members attending as allies help to lift up those around them, and if you like what we do, bring along someone who can benefit from our activities as well!

From time to time if our events are oversubscribed we may request that members who do not identify as part of our target groups give up their place to another guest.

Up until September 2022, our group was called Women in Games Vancouver (WIGeh). As we have evolved over the years, we came to understand that using the term “Woman” in our branding was exclusive to the wider community that we were wanting to foster. WIGeh has an amazing legacy which we are proud to honour. Read more about the rebrand here.

Why is there a DIG?

We know there are a lot of diversity focused groups in Vancouver, so why is this one different? It’s amazing that all these groups exist, so our first approach is to make sure we share resources and information as much as possible!

We do need to acknowledge that although there is cross over between members of many groups, there is no “one-size-fits-all” for games that covers all disciplines in one independent place.

Our goal is to be the central point for all things relating to the game development industry, and partner with other groups and organizations when it makes sense to do so.

As we continue to grow our digital presence, we are finding more opportunities to outreach to greater BC and even outside of Canada. We hope that everyone can benefit from the activities and resources we offer, and we are excited to work with everyone towards the same goals!

What kind of events do you do?

We started off as a meetup event group, and events are still a core part of how we reach our members alongside our ongoing communications on Discord. Events come in many different formats including keynote speakers, panels, more informal networking, roundtables and demo events.

We know that everyone can’t come to every event though, so DIG will strive provide other information and resources through it’s community pages, Discord server and website. If you have something beneficial to share, reach out to us!

We’re always interested to hear from members about the things we can do that will provide the most value - provided that we have the capacity to pull them off!

If you have a suggestion or idea that you think would be a good fit please reach out to us via email or one of the contact forms!
