WIMDi x WIGEH WEbiNAR : HOW TO OWN YOur EXPERtisE & START SPEAKiNG AT EVENTS

After a few months of down time while we all adjust to the new normal, it's time for us to get the ball rolling again and embrace the magic of video conferencing. We're partnering with our good friends over at Women in Male Dominated Industries to bring you an amazing talk to help you do more public speaking!

Does the thought of starting to do public speaking at events in your male-dominated industry intrigue you? The focus of this hands-on session is to look at what has stopped you from getting on stage (in person or virtual) in the past and explore how to move past your fears, generate topics to give a talk on, boost your speaking confidence, and allow you to practice speaking online in a safe space.

At the end of the workshop you will have a few ideas for talks and a chance to practice speaking. We’ll cover:

- Dispelling some myths about speakers/speaking
- You are always an expert in your own story – how to use this effectively
- Coming up with topics and choosing one
- Practice speaking in front of a group online (optional)

The goal of this talk is to enable you to become known as an emerging leader in your field and contribute to your industry, even if you've never spoken on a (virtual) stage before.

Note: You do NOT have to have any experience in public speaking. This workshop is for all levels of experience.

Speaker:
This talk is presented by Jill Binder, Founder of Diverse Speakers in Tech.

Jill Binder is the Founder and Chief Consultant & Trainer of Diverse Speakers in Tech. She leads the Diverse Speaker Training group in the WordPress.org Community Team (with a 50% sponsorship from Automattic) which encourages folks from underrepresented groups to speak at WordPress events. She helped organize the first BuddyCamp and for three years co-organized WordCamp Vancouver. She was a Featured Person on WordPress.org in 2019, named one of the top 100 Influencers of WordPress in 2014 by Torque Magazine, and listed one of the top 10 Women of WordPress by CloudWays.
